Chris Dicken - Portraits

Chris will be communicating some of his thoughts on portraiture, followed by a few tips on drawing / painting portraits - a subject many people seem reluctant to try.

The evening will start with an illustrated talk on portraits probably up to the break;  the rest of the evening will be for members to try their hand at it.

The best way to start portraits is producing a black & white drawing, so bring some good paper.  You can use cartridge paper if using pencil or newsprint is good if you prefer charcoal. A further alternative is pastel paper, this can be good for pencil or charcoal or of course pastels if you want to dive into colour.  If you'd rather paint bring your usual materials.

You'll also need a good photo, preferably three-quarter or side on.  Chris will project an image as well if you'd rather use that.

For those few members that managed to get through the snow to Chris's talk in March 2023, the evening will be similar, but with some extra content in the talk.
